Privacy Policy for FocusPug
Last Updated: February 23, 2026
Overview
At FocusPug, your privacy is our top priority. We believe that focus tools should help you manage your time without compromising your personal data. This policy explains how we handle information across both our browser extension and iOS app.
No Data Collection
FocusPug is designed to work entirely on your device. We do not collect, transmit, or store your personal data on any external server.
Browser Extension
The browser extension collects and stores the following data locally on your device only using Chrome's chrome.storage.local API:
- List of websites you choose to block
- Enable/disable status for each blocked website
- Global blocking on/off setting
iOS App
The iOS app uses Apple's Family Controls, Managed Settings, and Device Activity frameworks to help you stay productive.
- Opaque Tokens: When you select apps or websites to block using the system's FamilyActivityPicker, FocusPug only receives opaque tokens. We cannot see the names of the apps you choose to block, nor can we see your browsing history or specific app usage statistics.
- On-Device Processing: All blocking logic and schedules are handled locally on your device. We do not transmit your list of restricted apps or your usage patterns to our servers.
Permissions Explained
Browser Extension
FocusPug requires minimal permissions to function:
- storage: To save your blocked websites list locally on your device
- declarativeNetRequest: To block websites by redirecting them to the blocked page using dynamic rules
FocusPug does NOT require broad "access all websites" permissions. We use Chrome's declarativeNetRequest API with dynamic rules, which allows blocking specific sites you choose without needing access to view or modify data on any websites.
iOS App (Family Controls)
The iOS app requires the Family Controls entitlement, used exclusively to:
- Provide a picker for you to select distracting apps
- Apply shields to those apps during your focus sessions
- Monitor device activity locally to automate focus schedules
FocusPug does not share this data beyond your individual device (or your Family Sharing group if applicable).
Data Sharing and Third Parties
We do not share, sell, rent, or trade any user data to third parties.
- No Ad-Tracking: FocusPug does not contain third-party advertising or tracking SDKs that monitor your behavior across other apps or websites.
- No Server Logging: We do not log your browsing activity, Screen Time data, or app usage to any external server.
- No Analytics on Your Data: No analytics, no tracking, no external connections.
User Control and Data Deletion
Browser Extension
You can delete your data at any time by:
- Removing individual sites from the options page
- Using the "Clear All Sites" button in the options page
- Uninstalling the extension (removes all stored data)
iOS App
You have full control over FocusPug's access. You can revoke the Family Controls authorization at any time through iOS Settings or by deleting the app. Deleting the app will immediately remove all local settings and shields.
Children's Privacy
FocusPug does not collect any personal information from anyone, including children under 13.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this privacy policy from time to time. Changes will be reflected in the "Last Updated" date above. Continued use of FocusPug after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
